About Mariposa Cues:
Mariposa Cues have been handcrafted by Kyle Van den Bosch since 1994, but the foundation behind the brand goes much deeper than cue making alone.
Raised inside the legendary Chicago Billiard Café, Kyle grew up around high-level carom and pool players, developing his understanding of cue sports from an early age.
He later apprenticed under Joe Gold of Cognoscenti Cues before eventually opening his own workshop beneath the billiard room where it all began.
The name “Mariposa,” Spanish for butterfly, reflects the cue maker’s signature butterfly splice construction — a design deeply influenced by traditional carom cues.
Mariposa cues are especially known for their wooden joint pin construction, a feature that creates an incredibly solid and powerful “one-piece” feel that many players immediately notice the moment they hit a ball.
Today, Mariposa cues are highly sought after by both players and collectors for their uniquely connected hit and exceptional feedback, largely credited to Kyle’s signature wooden joint pin construction.

This particular cue showcases Kyle’s signature butterfly splice craftsmanship — one of the most recognizable elements behind Mariposa Cues.
The forearm features a beautifully vibrant piece of Purpleheart, accented with striking maple and tulipwood butterfly points.
Surrounding the points are five finely layered veneers in (olive, black, white, black, and olive), adding depth, contrast, and exceptional visual detail throughout the cue.
Complementing the build is a sleek pebble-grain cowhide leather wrap, bringing an added touch of elegance while maintaining a clean and refined overall appearance.
Included with the cue are two original maple shafts, along with a matching 1B2S maple wood joint protector set.
This cue is fitted with Kyle’s maple wooden joint pin — widely regarded as the most feedback-rich among the three pin variations he offers, compared to the Bocote and Purpleheart versions.
